Tothe best of my knowledge, no *consumer-level* (inexpensive, easy to use)soundcards with S/PDIF In will accept AC3-encoded audio into theircircuits.Some (but not all) pro audio interfaces with optical S/PDIF In may beable to accept AC3-encoded data at their digital inputs. The Montego DDL's Digital Out WILL passAC3-encoded audio data through its S/PDIF Out."AC3 Pass-Through" DOES NOT include accepting a DD/DTS-encoded signal atthe S/PDIF In and sending it out, unaltered, through the S/PDIF Out. This is to differentiate from a S/PDIF Out that will onlypass PCM-encoded audio data. The AC3(DD/DTS-encoded audio data) is "passed through" to the DD/DTS decoderfor decoding. quote:"AC3 Pass-Through" is when an AC3-encoded digital signal is transmittedfrom a DVD Movie disc, out through the S/PDIF Out, and to a playbackdevice with a Digital In and Dolby Digital Decoder. quote:Does that mean that the Montego does not support Passthrough?
